ATHLETICS WELLINGTON COACHING COURSES 

Athletics Wellington Coach Education 2017 
Athletics Wellington is offering clubs a variety of coach education opportunities for 2017. These opportunities are aimed at anyone interested in learning more about coaching athletics and they're ideal for volunteers/parents/teenagers who want to or are helping out athletes within our clubs:

RUN JUMP THROW AND GET SET GO COACHING COURSES 

Athletics NZ has revamped the Run Jump Throw programme with new resources including coaching activity cards and resources available soon. The resources and these training opportunities will make running club nights so much easier for clubs and their volunteers so we're really excited about this new resource.

RUN JUMP THROW COURSES
Run Jump Throw is the Athletics NZ programme for teaching children athletics. The programme has been revamped for 2017 so this course will focus on the principles of the programme and how to deliver it on club nights. An essential for club night coaches. If you're able to help on club nights, or have coached on club nights previously, then one of the courses  listed below are definitely worth attending - you'll get heaps out of it.

SUNDAY 15 OCTOBER:  Hutt Recreation Ground, Lower Hutt from 12pm to 2pm run by Simon England
SATURDAY 21 OCTOBER:  Newtown Park, Wellington from 3pm to 5.30pm.
TUESDAY 24 OCTOBER:  Adventure Park, Discovery Drive, Whitby in the evening from 5pm to 7.30pm run by Mark Harris.

GET SET GO COURSES

GETTING STARTED IN COACHING OCTOBER 2017
2 HOUR COURSE
Getting Started in Coaching is a generic, entry level course targeted at anyone with an interest in coaching—whatever your sport. Designed to be interactive, combining both theory and practical coaching scenarios, the two hour course covers the basics of coaching and gives an insight into what is involved. Ideal for clubs, schools, parents—any entry level coaches.
FREE to attend but registration is essential!
Tuesday 10 October UPPER HUTT St Patricks College Silverstream, 6pm to 8pm
Wednesday 11 October TAWA Wellington North Badminton Centre 6pm to 8pm
Thursday 19 LOWER HUTT October Hutt Central School, 6.30pm to 8.30pm

ATHLETICS WELLINGTON KIDS CROSS COUNTRY COURSE JUNE 2017
Aimed at volunteers/parents/teenagers coaching working with athletes up to and including 12 years of age

Main Objectives of this Coaching Course:
This course considers the development of endurance running skills and participants will be expected to:-
1.     Introduce correct fundamental athletics skill development to participants.
2.     Practical ideas for implementation of informal and formal competition into club and school settings.
3.     Create participation for all.

Text Books for this Coaching Course:

2.     IAAF Kids Athletics Events

Aimed at coaches/volunteers/parents/teenagers coaching athletes who are looking for some new ideas with their coaching programs

ATHLETICS WELLINGTON COACHING DEVELOPERS (Mentors)
Aimed at existing coaches who want to improve their coaching based upon best practice determined by the IAAF, Athletics New Zealand and Sport New Zealand.

Main Objectives of Coach Developers:
To introduce:-
1.     Watch a session you are delivering with your athletes.
2.     To work with you to seek best practice in your delivery.
3.     To break down the barriers to self-evaluation in the interests of your athletes.

Please note, we are not assessing your Technical, Tactical or training knowledge.  This is targeted at the holistic skills of coaching such as communication, feedback, presentation style etc etc.

IAAF LEVEL 1 COURSE - Athletes Under 15
Aimed at volunteers/parents/teenagers coaching athletes up to and including 15 years of age
Main Objectives of this Coaching Course:
This course is the full IAAF Level 1, and participants will be expected to:-
1.     Cover All Events.
2.     Target basic training for youth categories up to athletes U16 years of age. 

Text Books for this Coaching Course:
The official material used for the Level 1 will be:-
1.     IAAF Run Jump Throw
2.     IAAF Introduction to Coaching

Presenters:
The presenters for this course will be:-
1.     Lead Lecturer Mark Harris (IAAF Trainer / Lecturer Level 1)
2.     Support Lecturer to be confirmed

Dates and Times: This course is not intended to be held in 2017.
Cost: $250 for the full course

IAAF LEVEL 2 COURSE - Athletes Under 20
Aimed at coaches who have completed Level 1 and are coaching athletes up to and including 20 years of age.
Main Objectives of this Coaching Course:
This course is the full IAAF Level 2, and participants will be expected to:-
1.     Cover Event Group Specialisation and will be broken down into:-
a.     Sprints, Relays and Sprint Hurdles
b.     Middle Distance and Race Walk
c.     Jumps
d.     Throws

Target build up training for athletes U20 years of age.

1.     IAAF Applied Sports Science

1.     Introduce correct fundamental athletics skill development to participants
2.     Practical ideas for implementation of a Run Jump Throw into club / school activities
