There is a lot a fun and satisfaction in being an official at athletics meets. It is great seeing athletes in action up close, and satisfying to know that you have helped to ensure that the competition is held in accordance with best practice.
We need new officials to help supplement our existing numbers. In particular, we need additional officials for the NZSSAA championships that are being held at Newtown Park on 6-8 December.
To help develop new officials, we have scheduled training seminars in August and September.
The topics, dates and venues for these seminars are as follows:
|Date & Time||Topic||Venue|
|Wednesday 28 August 7:30 – 9:30pm||H&S for athletics. General rules. (Pre-requisite for any of next 3 sessions.)||Newtown Park|
|4 September 6:30 – 8:30||Track.tructure of track officials and rules, timing etc.||Sport Wellington 223 Thorndon Quay|
|11 September 6:30 – 8:30pm||Throws, Rules and running of events||Sport Wellington 223 Thorndon Quay|
|18 September 6:30 – 8:30pm||Jumps||Sport Wellington 223 Thorndon Quay|
We hope that those interested in becoming an athletics official will be able to attend all of these training seminars. If you complete all four, you will receive a formal qualification as an athletics official.
Anybody from age 17 and above can attend these training seminars. We will provide light refreshments and snacks at all training seminars.
If you are interested in attending training towards becoming an official and supporting the NZSSAA event in December, please email Vaughan Oates, our Senior Technical Official, at: firstname.lastname@example.org
