The Grade 12/13 Interprovincial competition will be held at the Caledonian Grounds in Dunedin over Easter.
The competition will take place from 16 – 17 April 2022. 

Are you interested in being considered for the Wellington team?

The Wellington team will include eleven athletes in each of the following age grades:

  • Grade 12 Girls,
  • Grade 12 Boys,
  • Grade 13 Girls,
  • Grade 13 Boys.

Athletes selected for the team will compete in four events (these must be a mix of track and field events, so 3 track and 1 field or vice versa or 2 track and 2 field).  The competition is a team-based event, with points awarded for the times you run, or the distances you throw or jump. The team with the most points wins, so every person in the team contributes towards the overall result. Relays are included at the end of the event and there is a prize-giving on the Sunday night.

It is a fantastic event for athletes as they’re competing against the top 12 and 13 year olds in the country, in a team environment.

Selection Information

A team will be selected after the first day of the Wellington Junior Championships and announced on the second day of Junior Championships at lunch time.

To be considered for selection you must complete the online Expression of Interest[EOI] on or before Sunday 20 February 2022 at 11.59pm, and  be registered with a club that is affiliated with Athletics Wellington.
Registering your online EOI does not guarantee you will be selected for the team. While we ask you to nominate your 4 best events, if you are selected there is no guarantee these are the events you will be competing in. The team managers will select athletes to fulfil the competition criteria and where athletes will be able to achieve optimum points as an individual athlete as well as for the team.

You should have competed at least twice in the Junior Interclub competitions, or any of the senior track and field meets. You should also have committed to competing on the first day of the Wellington Junior Champs.

Additional Team Information

The Wellington team will fly to Dunedin on 15 April 2022 and return on 18 April 2022.

There will be a compulsory team training on 3rd April 2022, unless you can provide a medical certificate that you are unable to be part of that training session. There will be top coaches leading this training session. We envisaged scheduling at least one other training session prior to the competition. All selected athletes will be informed of the date, venue and time.

Estimated costs as advised by the LOC, will be $485.00 per athlete.  This includes 2 meals for each day of the competition (breakfast & dinner), lunch packs, accommodation, t-shirt, team photo, entry fee, race number and the social prize giving on the Sunday night.

Return flight tickets will be $320.00 per athlete. Athletics Wellington will apply for a grant, as we have done in the past, to help reduce the overall costs for athletes.
