Juniors athletes taste success for Wellington clubs at Colgate Games.
Over the weekend a large number of Wellington Junior athletes attended the Colgate Games at Mitre 10 Park, Hastings proudly wearing their respective Wellington club colours. There were many successes for individuals not just the medal winners but the large number of athletes that were performing to their best and reaping the reward of efforts made by parents coaches and club managers.
While 7 year olds to 9 year olds competed as well in division races the medal grades were from age 10 years and above which were a run in a championship’s format, with qualification for finals in some events.
Future prospects look exciting for Wellington with almost a complete dominance of the Boys age 13 grade events. A number of the young athletes were winners or more than one medal and several Wellington clubs collected in excess of 20 podium spots for their 10 -14 year athletes. Titahi Bay and Lower Hutt took line honours in two of the Boys 4 x 100m relay grades and young Para athlete Albert O’Brien took 4 Para run titles in total.
