Successes across the Grades on Day 1 for Wellington Team
Wellington athletes claimed ten medals on Day 1 at the Athletics NZ Jennian Homes National Track & Field Championships at the Caledonian Ground in Logan Park, Dunedin.
The day was mostly a day of qualifying and some age group finals with the main Senior final being the 5000 metres event where Toby Gualter claimed silver behind local favourite Ollie Chignell. Beth Garland was the best of the Wellington senior women finishing in 6th place in her best Performance over 5000m
Medals were claimed over a range of age groups and Asher Robertson had a very busy day claiming three medals and placed 8th in the 100m final. Wellington Golds went to Nationals schools medallist Luke Jarvis who keeps building his strong result profile over sprints and Mia Thomson over 3000m in U16 grade with Olivia Clay- McDowell in a very close second and Wellington’s Lucy Mabin 4th in the same race.
