Athletics Wellington Race Walking Championships.

The event scheduled to be staged on the Te Marua course in Upper Hutt is boosted by the appearance of our premier Olympic race walker  to the field tomorrow.

Three time Olympic race walker Quentin Rew, of Wellington Harrier Athletic Club  will compete in the 10km championships tomorrow by COVID related chance circumstances.  COVID travel restrictions have seen former Wellingtonian stranded in Wellington while enroute to his home base of Melbourne post Tokyo Olympics. Rew who along with his family trains and lives in Melbourne, travel led via Wellington to visit his parents post games and travel restrictions have him here still. This is great boost to this the local walking fraternity when confirmed by race Director Phillip du Toit today.  The boutique field of 22 walkers across the various age grades will race walk either the 10km or 5km event .

Rew’s competition will most likely come from well performed national Junior 3000m champion on the track Daniel du Toit, and 2020 NZ senior 2okm national silver medallist Sean Lake
