Wellington Clubs shine with depth at National Road Relay Championships.

At the National Road Relay Championship held for the first time at Taupo’s Motorsport Park  Athletics Wellington clubs showed they have strong depth across the range of grades contested.

Wellington clubs fielded 43 teams from approximately 150 teams that migrated  to the central north island city venue over the weekend to conclude the major focus for clubs on the winter calendar.

Although top club spot went to the controversial Whippets through its top results across three events Wellington Scottish Club  [WSCO] claimed 2nd spot just ahead of cross town rivals Wellington Harrier Athletic  Club [WHAC].

Wellington Scottish was placed 1st in Masters Men 50 + grade, Masters Women and Masters Men Open 60+ . The Scottish club  placed 5th in Masters Men 35-49 grade. The WHAC club had strong results in Open Women placing 2nd, Open Men 5th place ,  Masters Men’s 50 -59 grade were 3rd  and Men Under 20 4th place.

The Olympic Harrier club  featured with 2nd place in the Under 20 Women’s relay, 1st and 3rd respectively in the new championships Under 16  grades for Girls and Boys.

Trentham United took the first event of the day which was the 4 -person Road Walk relay. Trentham Harriers and Wellington Scottish took 1st and 2nd in the Non Championships Boys Under 14 grade respectively.
