Athletics Wellington Appoints General Manager

The Athletics Wellington Board is excited to announce the appointment of Tony Rogers to the newly established position of General Manager of Athletics Wellington.

In this full-time position, Tony will support the Board to drive the development and promotion of athletics in the greater Wellington region. Tony will lead the day-to-day operations of the organisation and assist the Board to develop and implement a new strategic plan.

Having previously served on the World Athletics Athletes Commission, and as Competition and Performance Manager for Athletics New Zealand, Tony brings extensive experience, credibility, knowledge, and understanding of athletics from regional, national, and international settings.

The former Director of Sport at Rangitoto College (Auckland), current New Zealand Secondary Schools Athletics President, and recent Executive Director of Waikato Secondary Schools Sports, returns to Wellington with a wealth of knowledge in the youth sector across a variety of sports. 

Well-known in the track & field community as Director of the annual Team Ledger Harcourts Capital Classic, Tony has also experienced on track success. An Olympic finalist over 1500m in Los Angeles in 1984, Tony has also coached many New Zealand representatives for track and cross-country to the World Championship level.

The Athletics Wellington Board is delighted to have Tony’s skills and expertise in the role of GM as we move forward with the development and promotion of athletics in the greater Wellington region.

Tony will be starting in the role on Monday, 8th March 2021.
