Wellington Cross Country Titles Won Despite Wet Weather. 

  • Daniel Jones [Wellington Scottish] continued his impressive run of dominant form over the cross country distance events during the Wellington winter season. Jones had already taken the Vosseler Shield and Dorne Cup titles, and his run with a strong lead from the front performance  saw him win in the Senior Men’s 10 km race ahead of Scottish of team mates in Seamus Kane and Hiro Tanimoto who was 3rd overall and top finisher in the Men’s 35 category. The race over 10km with 117 competitors was run in the continual rain on what became a sodden track after earlier ag grade races in the wet weather at Harcourt Park, Upper Hutt, which attracted just on 300 club athletes to the annual Athletics Wellington Championships.
  • The senior women event was taken out by Ruby Muir [Scottish] ahead of Wellington Harrier Athletic pair of Sarah Drought and Esther George. The Men’s 50+ category title went to Brendon Thompson[Scottish]  and Women’s 35km title over 10km was taken out by Mel Stevens also of Scottish.
  • Age grade winners were young under 10 Olympic Harrier athletes Brooke Martin and Ovin Angammana in girls and boys respectively while Trentham United Harriers pair of Zoe Hilton and Madison Wos won the Under 12 and Under 14 girls with Jacob Williams Hutt Valley Harriers and Desmond Reddy Olympic Harriers taking the Boys Under 12 and Under 14 grades.
  • Max Poland Trentham United and Maria Relevant Wellington Harrier Athletic were dominant in their Under 16 4.0 km grades, while Meaghan Casey [Olympic Harriers] and Josh Jordan [Trentham United] were equally well ahead of their rivals for the Under 18 titles. Heather Walker [Wellington Scottish] was a clear winner in the Women’s 50+ category over 5.0km.
