Cody Wilson Shines with excellent sprinting at Spring Open
National senior champion of 2021 and bronze medallist in 2022 over 200m, 21 year old Cody Wilson made the most of excellent conditions for sprinting at Newtown Park in Wellington today with great spring weather of bright sunshine and a slight southerly. In his season opening run he clocked 10.84 over 100 metres ahead of recently crowned Wellington Secondary Schools champion and clubmate from Mana AC Tyrone Trego 10.96, with Ben Lambert [Paraparaumu] 11.27. Wilson came back just over a half hour later to run a personal best 21.10 200m. This time eclipsed his previous best set back in 2020 in Christchurch. This pushes him up to the top 20 level in NZL all time list surpassing Gus Nketia.
Wellington’s Anna Thomson almost mirrored her season opener of last year in the women’s triple jump leaping out to 12.33 metres in her first summer competition just 1 cm different to last Octobers opening jump of 12.34m.
In distance races, Hannah Miller turned out in the 3000 metres recording with ease 9.45.42 and looks forward to the NZ 10000 metres championships in 4 weeks as she hope to add another title after her recent Marathon, 10,000m Road and Half Marathon national titles.
