Colgate Games Successfully staged at Newtown Park

2022 North Island Colgate Games 

The event was successfully staged as one of the largest sporting events for young people post the 2021 Covid lockdown for many parts of New Zealand. With just over 1000 young 7 to 14 years old competitors enjoying the competition. All attendees were admitted only with My Vaccine Passes. The weather was typically Wellington in fashion as cool on day 1, warm and mild on day 2, and hot and windy on day 3 

Long standing sponsors of 44 years Colgate presented four Scholarships under the name of Nick Willis Scholarships for all round performances of merit by four of the 14 year old athletes. The recipients were Lucas Lambert [Paraparaumu], Jack Marra [Lake City], Amponsaa Tabi-Amp [Hastings], and  Kate Hallie [Takapuna]. Richard Willis, who has fond memories of taking is family to the Games when Nick was a young athletes was on hand to present the Scholarships and see his granddaughter performing for the Lower Hutt club with some excellent performances in the grade 10 division.
