Dorne Cup Inter Club Cross Country 2021

After an absence in 2020 due to COVID 19 the 94th staging of the historic Dorne Cup was run in ideal conditions  at Trentham Memorial Park on Saturday. Over 450 athletes competed across all grades from Juniors to Masters.

The 6.0 km race for Women’s  and Master Women grades and Masters  Men 60+age groups was first to go at 1.00pm in mild and calm conditions on a firm under foot course.

The senior women’s title went to Susan Lynch of Olympic Harrier & Athletic Club, ahead of former two time champion [2011 and 2016] Sarah Drought of Wellington Harrier Athletic Club just edging team mate Natasha Rae. WHAC women took the team title ahead of  Wellington Scottish  through support of Sarah Riceman and Andrea Peat.

In the Senior Men’s Open race over 8.0km Daniel Jones of Scottish continued his strong form ahead of  club mate Seamus Kane with Harry Dixon now competing out of Fielding Moa placing third. The Senior men’s team from WHAC equalled their women’s team feat and surprisingly took out the Mens 6 person team title ahead of Scottish with a strongly group team effort with four athletes in the top ten. The team was Nathan Tse (4th), Isaac Murphy (5th), Max Karamanolis (6th), Ryan McAlister (8th), Theodore Purdy (11th), Magnus Monahan (21st)

Overall sixteen clubs participated, including clubs from Manawatu and Wanganui. Individual grade honours were shared amongst Scottish with six titles, WHAC and Olympic five titles each, Trentham Harrier three titles and Hutt Valley the host two titles. The team titles were split similarly with Scottish taking six, WHAC five, Olympic four, Trentham United Harriers three and Hutt Valley Harriers &AA Club one title.
