Drought and Kane take Senior honours at Vosseler despite Weather

Despite a mid-morning weather bomb placing the staging in doubt the Vosseler Shield was held for the 99th time on Saturday on Mt Victoria 100 years on since the inaugural event. The feature races were held over 10km for Men and Masters’ Men 35 – 59 age grades, while most other grades including Women ran 5km while junior race varied between 1km and 3km.

Sarah Drought [WHAC] continued her excellent early season for to take the win for women and the valuable points in the third of Athletics Wellington Winter Series events. Alice Wilson {Scottish] Masters 35 grade narrowly took 2nd overall in the Women’s race and 1st in Masters, ahead Maia Flint [Victoria Uni] returning to  the local racing scene.

Seamus Kane [Scottish] defended his Men’s title of last year’s ahead of Nathans Tse [WHAC] and Thomas Strawbridge [Trentham United]. Josh Jordan [Trentham United] ran impressively to take Mens Under 20 3km then returned to run 10km senior vent placing 4th . In the 3km women races Maddison Wos [Trentham] continued her impressive form and was a clear winner ahead of Lucy Hannah [Olympic] and Eva Green [ Hutt Valley] all who still in Under 16 grade.

There were some excellent contest in teams races with one point splitting 1st and 2nd clubs in Men Masters 50+ between WHAC and Scottish  with 15 & 16 point respectively while in Open Women’s Scottish took honours with 15 points ahead of WHAC 16 and Victoria University 3rd with 17
