Phoebe Edwards Returns to Athletics with excellent Long Jump

STRONG PERFORMANCES LED by PHOEBE EDWARDS at CHAMPIONSHIP’S.

The Athletics Wellington Championships highlighted by return to championship athletics of Phoebe Edwards [Kiwi AC]  with a NZ season leading Long Jump of 6.10m and strong sprint performances lead by Cody Wilson clocking 21.28 [+ 3.2]. Corran Hanning [Kiwi AC] also set a New NZ para record in his Discus class with 40.73 m.

Other leading performances to top the New Zealand ranking lists were, in the Under 18 division by  by Luke Jarvis [Paraparaumu T&F]  with 200m 22.61[0.8], Jag Willers [WHAC] 2000m steeples in 6.14.64 and Asher Robertson [Lower Hutt] 6.19m Long Jump. Previously Heath Abbot [Karori]  set the top mark for Hammer last week with 59.27m in Under 18 while Alexander Hewitt [Mana A C] did similar in Under 20 grade with the Hammer out to 55.55m.

Overall there were over 220 individual athletes entries  this weekend across the grades with the Hammer Championships and Masters Weighted Throw and 60m held the previous weekend. The Championships  3000 meters and 5000 metres  events held at the two previous midweek twilights. 

Athletes have the Wellington Mile Championships at next weekend’s Summer Series meet # 2 at Masterton, followed by a Mid Week twilight meet on Wednesday 28 February

The next major event for   athletes will be the Jennian Homes National Track & Field Championships at Newtown Park from Thursday 14th  to Sunday 17th March.
