Plenty of Athletes Enjoy Sunshine at Dorne Cup

Dorne Cup event enjoys good numbers of participants 

Trentham Memorial Park was bathed in sunshine which helped attract strong fields to the Annual Dorne Cup nearing it 100th Anniversary since first being staged in 1925. A strong contingent of PNorty athletes from Palmerston North in the Senior men’s and Daniel Sinclair from Wanganui Collegiate, who convincingly took the Under 20 men’s race showed the iconic event attracts from outside the region. Sarah Drought [WHAC] and Seamus Kane [Scottish] once again dominated the Women’s and Men’s races and look to have an unassailable command on the Athletics Wellington Winter Series. There were great personal battles in some of the Masters grades and equally dominant with wins were Mel Brandon [Scottish] in Women 35+,  Athletics & Cycling Masterton club’s Graeme Butcher & Tony Price in 60+ and 65+ grades and Keith Chapman [Olympic] in 70+ grade. In youth grades many athletes were fine tuning for next week’s NZ Secondary Schools and Sinclair was very impressive, while the local focus was on performances of athletes like Olympic pair  Logan Hopfler and Desmond Reddy in the Under 16’s, and respective Under 16 & Under 18 women’s winner Madison Wos [Trentham] and Ava Sutherland [Olympic]
