Te Ahumairangi Ten Thousand Festival Success Despite Cool

Despite the very cool southerly prevailing  after the rain cleared on Saturday there were some excellent performances in the annual Wellington Scottish club hosted Ten Thousand Festival supported this year by Te Ahumairangi Investment Management.

Over 70 athletes toed the line to start  in two races along with a excellent group of athletes who contested the inaugural 10000 metre team relay contested by athletics from WHAC and Scottish clubs.

Nathan Tse [WHAC] was the fastest athlete on the night recording his 3rd best time and his first title in in the event after placing 3rd and 4th in the event in 2022 and 2023 respectively when the event was the NZ Championships. Ryan Woolley [WSCO] who was 2nd over the line took the Masters Men 35 title ahead of Matt Croxford [Vic Uni] who crossed the line 3rd overall. The  Men 20 race was taken out by Max Doherty [Olympic] in a personal best. 

Recent new Wellington resident Kumiko Otani of Japan ran her best performances in NZ over 10 km for a win in the women’s division  ahead of Rain Milne [Vic Uni] and Alice Sowry [WSCO]. Sally Gibbs a visitor from Wanganui was the best performing Masters Women with a  time of 38.16.97 for a 99% age grade rating in the W60 grade. Dan Clendon [WHAC] M45, Graeme Morrison [WHAC] M50, and Keith Chapman M70 [OLYM] took victories in their grades with age scores of over 80%. Race sponsor  Nicholas Bagnall [WSCO] took the M55 grade.
