Wrap of Wellington Athletes key successes at North Island Cross Country in Taupo

At Taupo over the weekend the Annual North Island Cross Country took place and is often seen as rehearsal for the  National  Championship in a months’ time  this year at the Mission Vineyard in Napier.  The event witnessed a number of strong results from Wellington club representatives

Victoria University Wellington club athletes were the best in the Open Senior races with Maia Flint continuing her great form with 2nd place behind the formidable Lisa Cross while club mate Max Taylor in 7th was leading Wellingtonian in the Senior Men

 A good number of athletes claimed youth age group medals with Ava Sutherland [Olympic] 2nd in Women 20, Olivia Clay-McDowell [Olympic] 3rd in the Under 16, Under 14 Boys Matthew Meiklejohn [Trentham UH] was 1st and Ovin Angammana [Olympic] 3rd.  In the Girls Under 14  Mia Thomson [Kapiti] won gold ahead of Harriett Young [Hutt VH] in 2nd. A similar one – two result went to Girls Under 12 Kapiti pair Lucie Thomson and Lucia Harfitt,  while in Boys Under 10 Olympic pair Cooper Williams and Matthew Jenkins repeated the 1st & 2nd spots.

In the Masters Men’s age grades medals were achieved by Andy Ford [Scottish] in M40 took bronze, Stephen Day [Scottish] was 2nd in M45 and in the  M55  a 3rd place went to Mark Anderson [Olympic]. Age grade victories went to Paul Hewitson  [WHAC] M60, Tony Price [A&C Masterton] M65 and in M80 Peter Ellis [Kapiti]. Masters Women’s claimed 4 medals with a silver to Sheryne Coverdale [Olympic] in W65 and bronze medals to Angela Clark [Olympic] in W55, Vanessa Trompetter [Hutt VH] W60 and  Annie Van Herck [Olympic] in the W70 grade.
