Wellington Athletes have top performances on both sides of the Tasman

Wellington Athletes were performing on both sides of the Tasman  over the Weekend in Brisbane and Christchurch:

As members of the NZSS Under 18 team at the Australian Championships Hugo Jones [WHAC ] took out the AUS Under 18 High Jump title with a personal best 1.99m .In 5th place was Samasoni Hewitt also with a Personal best of 1.95m.
Competing as Individuals in Brisbane, Heath Abbot [Karori] was 2nd in the Under 17 5kg hammer, in the 800m Poppy Healy ran 2:15.77 for 5th in her heat and ran 4.45.52 in the 1500. In the Under 18 sprints Josh Lotsu ran some impressive times over 100m and 200m. In the 100m Lotsu ran 10.77 +2.4 (2H2) q, Final 10.78 +1.3 for personal best while in 200m Lotsu recorded 21.92 +0.5 PB (2H4) q, Final 22.11 -0.1 (7). Lotsu was guest member also a member of the NZSS 4 x 100m relay NZ (Lotsu 16, Madondo 17, Cotterill 16, Taylor 16) . They ran 41.46 (2), New Zealand under 18 and under 19 record. Betters Waikato under 18 record 42.04 in Hastings in 1984 and New Zealand team under 19 record 41.47 in Sydney in 2017
In Christchurch at the National Marathon Championships Wellington Scottish club picked up bronze in Men’s and Women’s races with Mel Brandon and Sam McCutcheon. Brandon ran PB by clipping 22 seconds off her previous best in collecting the bronze medal in 2:53:00. McCutcheon ran 2.32.38 for third in the Men’s
In the half marathon event Sarah Drought of WHAC continued her fine form of 2023 with a two and half minute PB Half Marathon winning in 1hr 13.4 secs. Scottish’ Dougal Thorburn was 1st in Over 40 division of the Half in 70min 39 secs ahead of WHAC’s Daniel Clendon in 72mins 45 secs. The half was won by Julian Oakley in a smart 65 mins
