Alison Andrews-Paul and Toby Gualter take top Awards honours

Athletics Wellington Annual Awards of 2025 

Athletics Wellington’s Annual Awards for the year 2025 were celebrated last evening at the Petone Club by over 90 people for the Wellington athletics community. Alison Andrews-Paul and Toby Gualter were acclaimed  the top  Wellington Female and Male athletes of the Year.

Alison Andrews-Paul set up her 2025 year by retuning to run the three Central Classics taking the NZ Women’s mile title at the Pak’nSave Cooks Classic when finishing 3rd by two top internationals and then winning Sylvia Pott 800m title  in record time, as well placemaking duties in Wellington Team Ledger Harcourts Capital Classic. Andrews-Paul then went on to compete at her first World Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China. Later in the year she set a Wellington record of 2.00.63 over 800m in London, Ontario, CAN, to rank # 4 all-time New Zealand over 800m. In  six appearances over 800m in 2025 Alison averaged 2.02.8 sec.

Toby Gualter has been outstanding across the board in events since returning to New Zealand from College in the USA. In 2025 he won the NZ 10000m in Inglewood, 5km Road Championship in Rotorua, NZ Mountain Running Championships at Cardrona, NZ Half Marathon Championships in Wellington and NZ Road Championships 10km in Cambridge. He also took silver medal in the NZ  Championships over 5000m in Dunedin and NZ Cross Country Championships in Christchurch. Personal best were achieved over 10000m at the Zatopek in 28.54.91 and two personal bests performances over the Half Marathon when winning Christchurch in April and then placing 3rd in 63.22 in Melbourne.  

Guests at the Awards dinner were able to hear from both Toby and Alison during the evening with interviews live and via pre- record with Mark Rosanowski. Current All Black Sevens player Roderick Solo was called upon to present awards to the two outstanding athletes from the  Junior Committee season,  Janiva Faafia and younger brother Cedrick Solo. Rodney who still holds the G15 100m hurdles record reflected on his time in Hong Kong last weekend and paid tribute to his athletics coach Nga Holmes for his work in setting him on his pathway to be a top athlete while doing athletics at school.
