After much consideration, the Wellington Cross Country Champs have been cancelled for 2020. The already rescheduled date of 6 September falls within the window that the Wellington region will be at Covid Alert Level 2.
Athletics Wellington has looked carefully at how the Champs might still be able to be held under L2 Government guidelines, in particular limiting gatherings to no more than 100. The nature of the Harcourt Park venue (with multiple access points) and the significant number of competitive athletes our region has, means we have concluded it is not practical, and therefore safe, to hold the event.
We know cancellation of a championship event will come as a great disappointment, especially on top of many other events (including our Awards Evening) also being cancelled. Let’s hope that 2021 brings a much brighter outlook.
