Athletics Wellington announce final team to Athletics NZ Track & Field Championships.
Cody Wilson [200m] and Anna Thomson [Triple Jump] are the current national senior champions returning to defence their titles in Hastings next weekend. Josephine Reeves [High Jump] will defend her 2021 title representing Canterbury where she is now studying and being coached.
Although the team of sixty will be lead by our Seniors on Saturday and Sunday, phase two of the championships under Covid restrictions, our youth dominate in number with with total of 29 athletes, just under half aged in the Under 18 category. The Under 18 and Under 20 competition now runs from Thursday and Friday. The team includes three para athletes who will compete on Saturday and Sunday programme with seniors
Wellington Scottish athlete James Preston will take the rare opportunity to represent his club again at Nationals as he defends his 800m title.
